The largest train station in Madrid is the Atocha Station and has been on this site since 1851.After a fire which destroyed the station in 1892 it was rebuilt in 1892. This was then re modernised a hundred years later in 1992, with shops, bars and moving walkways etc.
A tropical garden has been created at the centre of the station and is home to many large terrapins which can be seen at the base of the trees and plants.
The fast AVE train which travels at speeds of up to 300km links Madrid to Seville, Cordoba and Barcelona runs from Atocha.
